Gave 5 JW's Something to Think About at a Starbucks Today
by flipper ini was having coffee at a starbucks located in a supermarket chain in one of the towns i work in my business .
while sitting there doing paperwork , what looked like 3 elders on their field service break sat at a table no more than 4 feet from me .
after eavesdropping it was obvious they were elders as they were talking about the c.o.

How did you leave?
by stuckinamovement inonce you realized the organization is simply a religious corporation, how did you leave?.

Did I fade?
A very, very, very slow fade.
So slow, that my DFed older brother once described it as "watching a turtle .......on a glacier."

Kingdom melodies / B4 Copyright/JW`s stealing melodies/anyone remember this ?
by smiddy ini can recall sometime ago in the 60`s 70`s or theirabouts,it when they first printed their own songbook must have been before the org.copyrighted their material, and the reason they did that is because some brothers were stealing the tunes ?
maybe modifying them and passing them off as their own for commercial gain?
( i know some of you are going to say wtf ?

Song 92 in the latest song book, "Preach the Word", is over-the-top derivative of John William's "Jurassic Park Theme".
FWIW, I think the Watchtower's explanation sounds pretty plausible. The alternative explanation that the JW songwriter, composing something to be used in "True Worship", deliberately plagiarized a tune from a known source doesn't make much sense IMO.

There's been a HUGE change in the format for the Announcements on the Service Meeting.
They no longer announce the Sunday talk title and speaker. Also, they don't give a run down of what parts are going to be on the Service Meeting that night.
Jehovah's Chariot speeds on!!

Easy there, undercover. Just rooting for my home team.
Haven't really watched much football since getting married, getting kids and getting elder-hatted.
Looking forward to watching the Niners with a house full of non-JWs.

the admitting nurse asked us a ton of questions and then this:.
nurse: do you have a religion?.

Great, freeing, moments from everyone here!
jwfacts: "He raised his glass, clinked it against mine and said cheers."
The recently (2 years ago?) reinforced toasting ban in the QFR was one "wake-up call" for my wife. As we read the QFR we were SURE that the WT was going to ease up on it just like they did on pinatas. We, and several other local JWs, were blown away by the blatant self-contradiction within the article itself.
We've been having fun with glass clinking around extended JW family. At the start of a dinner, one of us will just raise our glass and make eye contact with another JW relative. About 50% have just automatically raised their glass too and actually extended it for a "clink". The rest have refrained. Some quietly, some very vocally.
It's all good fun now.
"CHEERS!"

do any of the governing body have children?
by bigmac ini have no idea if any of them do--or grand children for that matter?.

I've been told by an elder that Guy Pierce has a "spiritually weak" son who (sort of) attends a congregation in Northern California.
I think they had other children as well.
Here's a link with GB info, but it doesn't give sources.
